John Ryan is a recent graduate of NCAD living and working in Dublin. He has recently been selected as a finalist for the Gilchrist-Fisher Award, the Ranalagh Arts Centre emerging artist award and the Neu Now Online festival. For the exhibition Essomenia, he is exhibiting a list of advice for artists, composed entirely of extracts from horoscopes. The work is a critique of the use of written language in art, created after a realisation of the often ambiguous terms used in artists statements and exhibition press releases. John works in a variety of mediums including painting, sculpture and installation, and has recently been reviewed in The Irish Times by both Aidan Dunne and Christin Leach.
